The Paralympics

The Paralympics

The paralympics are the olympics for people with disabilities. It might sound wonderfully fair, but it’s not. You might think it is because it’s “fair” that people with disabilities get to compete in the olympics too. Although the paralympics are actually quite bad. Just like sexism paralympic athletes are paid less and have less popularity. Not that they’re treated worse but they are treated unequally. I personally think that it is a bit fair because they at least get to compete in a sort of olympics.

The other problem is that hardly any people in the paralympics are not complaining or doing something about it. Here are a few examples on why the paralympics are unequal. 1. The paralympics always happen after the olympics. 2. A long time ago the paralympics were not even held in the same city. 3. Some people don't even want there to be a torch for the paralympics. 4. In the paralympics they don’t even have the same amount or the same sports as the olympics. 5. A lot more people go and watch the olympics and the paralympics on T.V or physically there. Plus a lot more.

The paralympics do not even have the same logo as the olympics. The paralympics logo is three curved line on a different angle each going the same way. The olympics logo is five circles connected to each other, three on the top and two on the bottom.

Having to compete in the same sports that Olympians do, Paralympians often have to give double, even triple the amount of effort to practice and compete in their event that Olympians do. Although not nearly as popular as the Olympics, the Paralympics deserves more recognition.

To add to the unequal treatment between the two events, the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, which took place September 7th to the 18th, only received 66 total hours of coverage on NBC where as over 260 hours of coverage were on for the Olympics.

Snapchat and instagram posted so many things during 2016 olympics. Although when the paralympics came along they didn’t do anything.

The paralympics symbol was invented by a jewish phd who treated Holocaust victims. The symbol symbolizes parts of handicapped people from top to bottom. It symbolizes overcoming disability.

The olympic flag has a white background, with five rings that are hooked together. Their colours are  blue, yellow, black, green and red. It represents the five continents of the world. hile the six colours are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time.

I think that we are making progress with it, but all in all I think that the paralympics should be equal to the olympics.
